What is a gastroscopy?

Gastroscopy – This diagnosis of the upper gastrointestinal tract with a flexible tube (endoscope) equipped with a LED flashlight and a camera transmitting the image in real time. It belongs to the group of endoscopic, ie the internal body surveys. A survey of all of the upper gastrointestinal tract (from the esophagus to the duodenum) called esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

Gastroscopy allows one session to explore some parts of the digestive tract:

  • esophagus (esophagoscopy);
  • stomach (gastroscopy);
  • duodenum ( duodenoscopy).

During inspection sometimes:

  • collect material for cytology and histopathology;
  • carry out such procedures, as:
    • polypectomy (removing mucosal polyps);
    • stop bleeding;
    • foreign body removal.

These procedures are not painful.
